I realize how Americans are so fat. Not just fat physically, but fat materialistically. We don't walk enough, not just for exercize, but basic transportation. The bigger the things we buy the more stuff we need to fill it with, examples - big house=more furniture and bigger, bigger appliances, more food - just more more more. The flat we are renting for my husband while he teaches in the UK is half the size of our house in the US and our house is less than 1000sqft. And let me tell you, two weeks in that flat and I was loving it!
Something else I realized while back in the US. A town not too far from me where my mom&stepdad live is undergoing new development and a lot of it. But the houses are being built on lots half the size of mine and being sold for almost 4 times as much. What the heck? And people are buying.
So, I am not ready to leave my country just for the sake of living smaller. I am ready however to start new and live smaller. I think this is more than just decluttering, I think it means taking a good look at my life and seeing where I can let go of the things that I just don't need.
Oh Joy.

Welcome to the life of true richness.
We live in a tiny 500 sq ft cottage with a 250 sq ft detached art studio which I tottle off to by way of a short jaunt of a path through the garden. It is heaven on earth. I don't need anything more than what I can find a place for in the cottage or studio...For when we are in the garden we need even less.
I adore it all.
Enjoy! =^..^=
