It is the day before the New Year, 2007. I'm giddy and reflecting on this past year and I have found that a lot of what I do, whether it is taking on a new project or finishing one, has a lot of binging and purging. I have a goal of getting myself in my new "STUDIO" by tonight. I'm 95% of the way there, I just have a lot of little things I am sorting through. At this point I may just throw it all into a basket and sort it out later when I move my craft table in.
In the previous post I listed some goals that I would like to be able to attain this year. I don't think I will have much of a problem, but it is always good to reflect on what has happened in the past and learn from my mistakes.
For my birthday, my mom got me about 6 of the 3 drawer 12x12 storage units, labeled them and filled them with things she knows that I will enjoy. That set the tone for something greater! At Christmas I got another storage unit and a Labeler!! An electronic Labeler. Now, I'm dyslexic and a little ADD by nature so having an electronic labeler and everything labeled helps me out emensly! As it does the whole family!
Some of the things I have done during my time off from work is clean out. My daughter and I cleaned out her room full of toys that she just wasn't playing with anymore. We kept a few categories of toys; ie dinosaurs, stuffed animals, but we ended up cleaning out two car loads of stuff and took down to the charity shoppes. It is very freeing to have these things gone. It no longer feels like a noose around our necks when the stuff gets out of control, it is so easy to manage. There is a zen-like feeling to it. Our living room is the same thing. I've cleared out so many things, moved furniture around, and put up new curtains and a curtain rod. It feels good.
There was an initial feeling that with the more things that were purged, that more could be brought in. But now I'm beginning to enjoy the lessness that resides in my house. I feel like we can have people over and not feel awkward about the things still on our tables because we just weren't able to find a place for it, or the shoes everywhere, or anything else. We still have a long way to go. There is still painting and cleaning and things that I would like to fix, but all in all we are going to walk into 2007 feeling lighter and refreshed.
2007 will be a year of lessness. I will work to look at things square in the eye and decide if it is something that is useful or useless. Is it a space whore or can it fit nicely with the rest of our things.
